Announcement at Mentone, California, Seventh-day Adventist Church, August 1, 2009.

Friends, I make the following announcement on behalf of the Southeastern California Conference.

Today marks the eighth year and first month of our pastoral service at the Mentone Seventh-day Adventist Church. That is a long time. In response to the call of God, we have shared our life with you.

On July 27, our family responded to God’s call again. We have accepted a call to the Upper Columbia Conference, where we will be working in northernmost Idaho. We will be pastoring the Bonners Ferry and Clark Fork Seventh-day Adventist Churches.

We have sold our home here in California; it is in escrow. We feel that it will be best for our children to raise them in a setting different than Southern California.

In a couple of weeks there will be a special meeting of the church board at which conference leaders will join you in addressing the specifics of the transition and of moving forward with the process for selection of your next pastor. Our executive secretary, Sandy Roberts, wanted me to assure you that the conference will work closely with you in this process.

We are still working out the details of a transition timeline, but it appears that our last sabbath with you will be toward the end of August.

Every call is a double call. The fact that God is calling us to move on says also that somewhere, He is already laying His hand on another worker especially suited to work with the Mentone congregation. Please pray for us as we pray for you, that the work of God will go forward with ever increasing effectiveness.

No worker is indispensible; pastoral work is always a privilege, never a right. It is because of God’s love for this congregation that He is preparing to send someone with fresh outlook and skills. Our gifts are called for at this time in another part of our Lord’s vineyard. Souls are in the balance, and He would use each of us to complete His great work of drawing to Jesus and changing us by His Holy Spirit. This church is poised for action, and the Lord will visit this vine. GCO
