Let Us Pray and Join With Our LeadersA comment on the occasion of the election of Ted N. C. Wilson as General Conference President in Atlanta 2010 General Conference SessionPresenter: David Qualls on Behalf of the GreatControversy.org ministry Location: Internet Delivery: 2010-06-25 Publication: GreatControversy.org 2010-06-27 01:28Z Type: Document URL: http://greatcontroversy.org/gco/rar/gco-wilsonpresident.php The world body of Seventh-day Adventists in general conference session has spoken. As of today, June 25, 2010, a new leader has been chosen—and that decisively so. Elder Ted N. C. Wilson, son of former president Neal C. Wilson, became the 17th world leader of the church since it organized in 1863 (some served more than once). Those who have a heart for God’s Remnant Church find much cause for encouragement in this development. We don’t know the thought processes of the nominating committee or the delegates, but surely there must have been a growing realization that something needed to change for the better. We join all others of good will around the world in wishing Elder Ted Wilson the very best as he assumes the heavy burden of leading this movement. This is no time for triumphalism (is it ever?). The challenges are enormous. The inroads of worldliness, the increasing apathy, the mounting confusion over beliefs and practices, the cold, hard attitudes as a substitute for true piety, the indecisiveness, have kept us wandering in the wilderness these many years. It is time for revival and reformation. We are under no illusions that one man can single-handedly turn the ship around. It will take a miracle of God and much cooperation from faithful people in this church to reset a course bound for the heavenly Canaan. But an important step in that direction has been taken by the church today. The new president and other church leadership must move with decision. Their firmness must be matched with the deepest compassion. Their courage and resolve must be tempered with the mercy that Jesus so ably demonstrated. Their ardor to squarely meet the enormous issues facing this body must be grounded in genuine love. The necessary zeal these times demand of them must be equaled by their humility and meekness. For those who have prayed, watched, and labored to stem the torrent of iniquity entering in among us, today’s events spark a level of hope not seen in recent times. There seems to be a renewed interest among many in God’s church to bring an end to the suffering in this world; of joining in cooperation with God in forming that last generation that will help to vindicate His name and bring glory to God. Building on the youth movement (GYC and others) and a renewed interest in understanding and living the true gospel and righteousness by faith, there is a sense that events are converging toward the consummation of all things. The hour is late; it is time to go home. Let us pray and join with our leaders in giving our full support to bringing revival and reformation and to finishing this work God has given to the Seventh-day Adventist movement.
